About
Cuttyhunk Island’s wondrous allure can be seen year round. In the Town of Gosnold, the southernmost island within the Elizabeth Island archipelago is approximately 13 miles from the mainland.
The Cuttyhunk STEAM Academy is an integrated approach to teaching that engages youth and adults in the subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Math through a daily or residential multi-day/night program.
The academy supports up to 40 students (at least 4 chaperones) for day programs and a student to staff/chaperone ratio of 5:1 with a group size of up to 25 students/30 participants for the overnight experience. Larger group size requests will be reviewed on an individual school basis. Accommodations may include the sharing of bedrooms and shared bathrooms (by gender).
In addition to local emergency service personnel, a nurse will be available 24/7 on island for overnight programs to provide for any medical needs or emergencies of the STEAM Academy participants.
Program costs will vary as to whether the event is a day visit or an overnight stay. In general, the cost includes round trip ferry travel with backpack and one checked luggage (overnight), programming, accommodations (overnight), and meals (overnight) with the exception of lunch on the first day. Please contact the program director regarding specific cost per participant.
Transportation to/from the Cuttyhunk Ferry Co. in New Bedford, MA or other ferry/charter transporation is the responsibility of the school district and/or organization.
